The Gunners have been looking for defensive reinforcements since last January, and despite the interest in Thomas Partey (as revealed by James Benge in an EXCLUSIVE with us), the club is still interested in securing a defender.
According to the reliable yet notorious AFCBell, the club has reignited their interest in Mykola Matviyenko, the young Shakhtar Donetsk defender that can play CB and LB.
This is due to the request of the Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta who likes the profile of the young player and is impressed with his ability to build up play from the back along with being astute at playing multiple defensive positions.
According to the site, Shakhtar value the Ukranian at €30m with him being Arsenal’s defensive priority in this window. The club also believe that with one year left in his deal, he will be available for a lower fee than whats being demanded by Shakhtar.
The young defender has made 38 appearances for the club scoring 4 goals.
